Player Interview

1. Having played on the English version of Kapi-Regnum since one week after the opening day, what is your overall opinion on the game, and it's growth with features and the players?

This game is fascinating! On one hand, the idea is very simple but on the other hand, it demonstrates the complexity of economy. There are so many different ways to earn money and to optimize the income.
My friends and I, we discuss about different strategies or trading partners sometimes for hours. Most astonishing is how international this game is after only a few months. I trade with my city all over the world. I make friends this way and maybe I will meet them sometime and shake their hands.

2. Do you play across any of the other economy simulation games from UpJers? (Kapilands, Kapitalism, etc)

Honestly I am not very experienced in playing online games. I found the German version of Kapi-Regnum while I thoughtlessly surfed the web during a break and started playing. It was fascinating so I continued playing. Then the English server started and I started here as well.

3. Do you believe this experience from the other servers has helped you now?

Yes, of course! It helped a lot when I decided my production line. On the German version, I produced too complicated things at the beginning so it needed a long time to earn good money.

The second start on the English server went much better with a simple product but a friend of mine started again with a complex product and he is doing even better.
It also helped me a lot at the beginning of the contest. I needed to decide very fast if I want to participate to win or if I "only" sell flax to bigger cities. I decided to sell the flax and this was a good decision because my city grew continuously during the contest and there was no chance to win this contest for me.
The first two, The Kingdom of Wrdoff and Obscurum, spent unbelievably much money for this contest. Congratulations again to all who won a prize this time!

4. How do you feel the first contest on the server has effected the economy?

Some were opposed at first, but most have since stated they have infact profited.

5. Are you looking forward to a second contest for the server, and will you take part in that one as well?

I hope the next contest is coming soon because a contest has two main effects. Firstly, the small cities get a boost of their income when they produce and sell the contest products. Secondly, the big cities must decide if they participate or not. This reduces their income but they know that Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medals will never be as cheap as they are now. Both effects do have a balancing effect in the game and this is positive in my opinion.
Well, the Medals are unique so I also want one – for honour! However, I do not have enough cash flow yet so I must stay patient. My time will come!

6. Since the prizes in the contest are all reputation based do you feel it is worth investing in the contest(s) as an alternative to special buildings to earn reputation?

Winning a contest does satisfy an ambition and it does a city honour to show one of the medals in the Hall of Fame. Buying a medal is maybe impossible because no city provost will sell it. Even if there is one for sale it will never be as cheap as buying the same reputation by any other status symbol so I think it is always worth investing in a contest!

7. Do you specialise in a particular product or mix & match to make a profit to improve your city?

As I mentioned above I do a very simple production line this time – herbs. After the first adaptation of the price-calculation formula just before the contest, the price for herbs went down and down so I decided to research honey as well. Now I can change the product whenever I want without any changes in my building structure. Later on when I feel comfortable with my cash flow, I will modify my building structure for a more complex production line but I did not even decide which one I would choose.

For this third edition of the Regnum Journal I was able to contact, and Interview another of our users within the game.

Volki
Of the city Juvavum.

Volki was perhaps the largest supporter for the first contest of Kapi-Regnum.com that passed just a few days ago. They setup a guessing thread with a prize to find out what others thought would be the total amount of Flax delivered by the first place winner, although virtually all of the guesses were far below the achieved total sent in by The Kingdom of Wrdoff.
A massive total of 16,919,052 Flax.

In the Interview shown to the left and below they also provided an insight into their opinion on the contest, and their experience during it stating how they changed their production line during the contest to improve their profit margin and expand their city without any loss of income.

Note that we generally select and contact people at random to inquire if they would be interested in been Interviewed for the paper, and contacting one of the editorial staff will not improve your chances of been one of those selected.

8. Did you change your production line during the contest to create Flax, or other products during a time of short supply to support yourself or sell for a profit?

When I got information about the contest product, I changed my production line immediately. I only produced as many herbs as I needed to fulfil the contracts for my trade partners. Like this, I was able to produce a lot of flax daily and I sold it via contracts.

Nevertheless, these were too many pieces for this early stage of the game in my opinion. I logged the cash flow of the big cities and saw that nobody can afford this amount at a price I would have liked so I did not increase my profit a lot. But, I had the chance to increase the area of my market stalls without loosing money.

This is a very important point to counter the adaptation of the price-calculation formula. Now it looks like I can sell my herbs again in my own stalls and the herbs crisis of my city is past.

9. Do you have a particular interest in the middle ages that has made you more inclined to play Kapi-Regnum?

I think in particular the Middle Ages are in mind of many people. So many books or movies tell us magical and fantastic stories about brave knights, monsters, and beautiful women. These stories accompanied each of us since childhood and activated our imagination.

10. Approximately how much time do you put into the game on an average day?

I do not use a lot for playing, maybe 20 minutes. I use much more time to think about new strategies, discuss features of the game with friends, or get in contact with other players.

11. How did you hear about the game, and have you referred anyone new to play?

I read about the English version in the German Journal of Kapi-Regnum and this one I found by accident as I mentioned above. This game was also fascinating for some friends who joined as well the German version and moved afterwards to the English server.

12. Any other comments you wish to add?

I am astonished about the quality of some players. I think I did not build up a bad economy in my city but a few cities are far ahead. These players really have my respect.
To all others who are not fighting for the first place: Have fun & never forget, we are not playing against each other; we are playing with each other! ~ Volki, Juvavum
