Expansion Costs

Recently with the cost of expansion steadily increasing the costs to managers of all professions are seeing ever increasing downtimes and higher costs while they have to close for an expansion to be built.

The manager of the local Weaver's Mill was recently given a quote to expand his location by an additional 20 squared metres, on top of his existing 380sqm.

He currently hires 38 workers, however during the expansion he can only keep 19 of them working to allow the expansion to be built uninterrupted. This would mean his productivity is effectively halved during the expansion, but he would also still need to pay these workers while they cannot get to work, and pay his other workers at the rate of their basic pay, plus 20 percent for the duration of the expansion.

He was originally quoted 2,000 ¢τ per 1sqm for the expansion plus an additional 180 ¢τ for the materials. They would work at the rate of 3 squared metres per day on the expansion which would take approximately 1 week then to complete.

With the increased cost of expansion he now has a quota of 2,100 ¢τ per 1sqm expansion, plus an additional 210 ¢τ for the required materials.

Having approached a building contractor however they have offered him the deal of the basic expansion costs (inc. materials) for the first 15sqm, then 90% of these costs for the remaining 5sqm.

He also currently pays his workers at the rate of 300 ¢τ per week, however remember he also needs to pay the workers that continue working with the 20 percent bonus.

After the expansion he also needs to advertise and hire two new employees for the Mill and offers them a starting bonus of 500 ¢τ each on top of their basic wage per week.

Question:
How much in ¢τ would the manager need to spend in total for the construction of Weaving Mill expansion?

Remember to take into account any discounts, building costs, worker costs, etc.

Hint: This is another mathematical problem which requires a bit of thinking.
If you do not fully understand the question re-read the details given, and use paper if necessary.

Good Luck to everyone in finding the solution for this third puzzle of the Regnum Journal.

Solution of last edition

The manager would have needed a budget of 247,728 ¢τ for all the construction materials and labour costs to complete his project.

Let's break this down to understand how it all adds up.

Firstly note he wanted to expand 70sqm, but the council would only allow him 60sqm which already reduced the total he needed.

Been a Stone Mine the stones were readily available, so there were no costs.

He needed to purchase in enough Wood however to complete the expansion; requiring 120 Wood, per 1 sqm. This totalling to 7,200 Wood.

At the rate of 24 ¢τ each the Wood would cost a total of 172,800 ¢τ however remember the council offered him a 10% discount thus giving the total of 155,520 ¢τ.

He also needed to purchase Tools for the job at a rate of 12 tools per 1sqm, so needing only 720.
These cost 12 ¢τ each, and he already receives a 5% discount on these costs for a base of 8,640 ¢τ, minus the discount to get 8,208 ¢τ.

With the construction materials set aside construction workers were needed to work on the upgrade to the mines. These charged 1,200 ¢τ per 1sqm, and with 60sqm to upgrade this total came to 72,000 ¢τ.

New employees would also be needed after the construction at a rate of 2,000¢τ per 1 employee, who worked on 10sqm each of the mine for a total of 12,000 ¢τ.

Now add these figures up to come to the total;
155,520+8,208+72,000+12,000 = 247,728 ¢τ

And so for the prizes?
